Folks talk about ‘Should this nation return to God?’ I, personally, can’t answer that without knowing exactly what they mean. I’m sure the Islamic state sees themselves as ‘returning to God’ although they’d more likely say they are living as God desires – no return needed. I certainly don’t want to see that here as to live under Sharia law is not we’re I want to go!
Should people behave in a moral manner? Even this leaves room for unfortunate happenings as what moral is depends on your point of view. I’d never expect my husband to kill my daughter if she had sex before marriage but to some it is morally necessary. A ‘return to God’ would bring about a lot of deaths.
Maybe we need a different measuring stick. Even an atheist will do good things – visiting someone in the hospital, raising money for various causes, etc. If asked they would likely say it just seemed like the right thing to do. No ‘return to God’ would change this. So what do we ‘return to’ how do we measure?
If anybody has the answer we’d all benefit.
