Sharia law in Australia?

A friend recently sent me a piece about the Australian prime minister. It says ‘Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.’ This, by the way, is not a quote of the Prime Minister and is not close to what she really said.

Now I haven’t done an extensive study on Sharia law but I do know it is NOT the threat to non Muslim people some would like to make out! It can be interpreted in a way that could cause harm just as missionaries trying to make everybody Christian caused gross harm among the native americans. In Sharia law a violation of the law is a sin. In our law some violations are sin such as murder, stealing and others that hit the Big Ten but we look the other way when a violation of the Big Ten such as adultery is committed. Those living by Sharia law do not look the other way when Sharia law is violated. Maybe we should stop ignoring it when one of the Christian laws is violated such as ‘love your neighbor…’! Muslims are our neighbors too!

In today’s world we need to be tolerant of belief systems that are not like ours and remember that Muslims believe in the same God Christians worship! Yes there are extremist but they exist on both sides! The extremist who wants Australia to kick those seeking to live by Sharia law out of the country is just as wrong as the extremist who declares death to the infidel.
